Apply for a Student visa

International students studying in the UK for more than six months must apply for and receive a Student visa before coming to the UK. You cannot study with us if you arrive in the UK without your Student visa or before it is valid. For shorter courses or coming as part of a distance learning course, a visit visa may be more appropriate. Find out if you need a visa to come here, or contact the International Advice team advint@st-andrews.ac.uk

If you have an existing UK visa, or are a current student requiring a new visa, you will be subject to different documentary requirements and you may be eligible to apply from inside the UK. Please contact advint@st-andrews.ac.uk for more information, and to find out if you are eligible.

Supporting documents

Always read the 'supporting document checklist' available at the end of the application process. This specifies what you must submit to the UKVI. Only certain nationalities need to submit educational or financial documentation.

Your supporting documents must be scanned and uploaded either before or during your biometric appointment, or mailed in, whichever option is appropriate for the country you are applying in. You should also provide a certified translation of any documents that are not in English.

You also need to make sure that you have one blank page, front and back, in your passport or travel document where your visa vignette will be attached.
