How to apply for accommodation

• Apply for undergraduate accommodation

  Applications for entrant undergraduate students will open on 15 March.  You can apply for accommodation 48 hours after you receive and accept an offer of a place to study at the University. You should apply as soon as possible, regardless of whether your offer is conditional, unconditional, or an insurance place.

  You must apply for accommodation by 30 June in your year of entry to meet the accommodation guarantee. The online application form will be available from 15 March.

  How to apply

  To apply for accommodation, complete the online application form. For more information on completing the application form, see guidance on how to apply online.

  On your application, you must list the four types of residences in order of preference:

  • catered standard
  • catered en suite
  • self-catered standard
  • self-catered en suite.

  Once you have set up your University account, you can access your application at any time through your MySaint portal. The ‘Accommodation Online’ portlet will be on your MySaint homepage; if it is not, you can select Add Content and then select Applications>Accommodation Online.

  Offers for accommodation

  Offers of accommodation for entrant undergraduate students will be sent in batches.  Applications are processed once you have met any conditions of your offer and it changes to unconditional firm.

  Please do not worry if you are waiting for exam results to meet your offer conditions.  Provided you have applied before the 30 June and you meet the criteria, you will be offered accommodation.

  Offers will be sent from end of May and continue to be sent out until late August.  It may be up to 6 weeks after your status has been confirmed as unconditional firm before you receive an offer of accommodation.

• Apply for postgraduate accommodation

  You can apply for accommodation 48 hours after you receive and accept an offer of a place to study at the University. You should apply as soon as possible, regardless of whether your offer is conditional or unconditional.

  The online application form will be available from noon on 1 March. While there is no deadline for postgraduate accommodation applications,  you should apply as early as possible to try and secure a place. If you are covered by the Overseas Postgraduate taught students Guarantee, you must have applied by 30 June.   Postgraduates are able to apply for a specific hall of residence. Find out more about postgraduate halls. Postgraduate accommodation is available in St Andrews, Leuchars and Dundee.

  Once you have set up your University account, you can access your application at any time through your MySaint portal. The ‘Accommodation Online’ portlet will be on your MySaint homepage; if it is not, you can select Add Content and then select Applications>Accommodation Online.

  Offers for accommodation

  Offers of accommodation for entrant postgraduate students are not sent out until mid-May at the earliest. Applications are processed once your offer is unconditional.

• Apply for foundation accommodation

  You can apply for accommodation 48 hours after you receive and accept an offer of a place to study at the University. You should apply as soon as possible, regardless of whether your offer is conditional or unconditional. If your conditional offer does not later become unconditional, your accommodation application will simply be cancelled, with no liability.

  The online application form will be available from:

  • 15 March for September foundation entrants
  • 1 September for January foundation entrants

  University accommodation is guaranteed for foundation students, but you should apply by the deadline to ensure your room booking is in place before your start date.

  • 30 November for January foundation entrants

  How to apply

  On your application, you must list, in your preferred order, the four types of residences:

  • catered en suite
  • self-catered en suite
  • catered standard
  • self-catered standard.

  However, the International Education Institute strongly recommends you apply for an en suite single room with either a self-catered or catered package. Putting these options at 1 and 2 in your application will enable us to place you in the David Russell Apartments, where you will be close to your classes and living with other foundation students.

  Offers for accommodation

  Offers of accommodation for foundation entrant students are typically sent out:

  • from mid-April for September foundation entrants
  • from mid-November for January foundation entrants.

  Applications are processed once your offer is unconditional.

• Apply for family or couple accommodation

  To apply for University accommodation for couples or families, fill out the couples and families application form (Word) email it to accommodation@st-andrews.ac.uk 

• Apply for visiting postgraduate accommodation

  To apply for visiting postgraduate accommodation, complete the first page of the visiting student accommodation application form (Word) and then send it to the department you are visiting for them to complete the second page. Once the form is complete, email it to accommodation@st-andrews.ac.uk.
