Application guidance

If you are applying for University accommodation, you will need to complete the 2024-25 online application form. Details on how to navigate the application form can be found below and in the Step by step guide How to apply for accommodation guide (Word)

You cannot apply for accommodation until 48 hours after you have received and accepted an offer of a place to study at the University of St Andrews.  Regardless of whether your offer is conditional, unconditional, or an insurance place.

If you have any questions about the application process, you can ask a question.

Register an Account

Accommodation Online is the online portal which is used to apply for accommodation. You will need your surname, student ID and date of birth to register a new account. Your date of birth must be entered in the DD/MM/YYYY format.

Uploading a photo

In order to create a student matriculation card, you must upload an up-to-date photo to Accommodation Online. Your student card will allow you access to your halls of residence.

The photo must be a passport-style photo; for guidance, please see passport photo requirements.

If you don't upload an image, you will not be able to submit an accommodation application.

Once you are logged into the Accommodation Online system and have uploaded a photo, you will be able to start your application or review an existing application.

If you have relevant information, which has not been covered within the application form, which will impact on your accommodation needs please email accommodation@st-andrews.ac.uk

Accepting your offer

You will receive your offer of accommodation to your University email account. If you have not already done so, you will need to activate your computer account

Once you receive an offer of accommodation, you will usually have ten days to accept or decline the offer. After this period has passed, the offer will be withdrawn and the room offered to another student. You will not receive another offer of accommodation if you decline your offer.

If you do not want to accept the offer, please ensure that you choose to decline it online as soon as possible rather than waiting for it to expire. This is so that the room can be offered to other students.

Complete the pre-arrival process

Once you have accepted the offer of accommodation, you must complete the pre-arrival process before you arrive at St Andrews.

The pre-arrival process includes:

  • an e-induction
  • a multiple-choice quiz on topics covered by the e-induction (for example, fire safety, accommodation policies, prohibited items etc.)

The pre-arrival process also allows you to print a key receipt which you must bring with you on arrival day. Please do not print this until your room number has been confirmed, approximately two weeks before you arrive.
