Windows updates

• Install a Windows update

  To install the latest update on your computer follow the steps below:

  1. Open Software Centre. You can search Cortana or find it from the Start Menu in Microsoft System Tools.
  2. Click Operating Systems. 
  3. Click Update.

  Updates can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours to complete, so only install the update at a time that suits your work schedule. If your laptop shuts down whilst the update is ongoing, it will continue when you turn it back on again.

  You might have software installed on your laptop which is not compatible with the new update. If you get an error message, contact the IT Service Desk for help.

• Upgrade to Windows 11

  If IT Services have advised you to upgrade to Windows 11:

  1. Open Software Centre. You can search it or find it from the Start Menu in Microsoft System Tools.
  2. Click Operating Systems.
  3. Click Update.

  The upgrade takes around two hours so try to install it at the end of the working day.
