• Register your smartphone with Microsoft 365

  Students are prompted to register their smartphone when they sign into office.com for the first time. You can set up the following methods:

  1. Microsoft Authenticator smartphone app. You can choose whether the app generates codes (no internet connection needed) or sends you push notifications (internet connection needed).
  2. Receive codes by text to your mobile phone.
  3. Approve sign-in requests by phone call.

• If you forget your phone

  Let IT Services know and they'll help you log in.

• Register your smartphone with Duo Mobile

  Check for updates on your smartphone before setting up multi-factor authentication. The Duo Mobile app won't download if your phone's operating system is out of date.

  1. Go to the Duo portal.
  2. Enter your University credentials.
  3. Select Mobile Phone as your device and enter your mobile phone number.
  4. Install the Duo Mobile app from your app store. If you have issues with this, please contact the IT Service Desk.
  5. Open the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone and tap the + button.
  6. Scan the barcode presented on your monitor and click Continue.
  7. Choose Automatically send this device a Duo push from the drop-down menu.
  8. Tick the Remember me for 14 days box when you sign in.

• What to expect when you sign in

  Next time you sign in to Microsoft 365 or a University resource which sits behind single sign-on, you'll be given a few options to choose from to verify your identity.

  These are:

  • Send Me a Duo Push
  • Call Me
  • Enter a Passcode.

  What's a Duo Push?

  A Duo Push is the fastest way to authenticate. Access applications in one tap and deny fraudulent attempts using the Duo Mobile app.

• If you don't have a smartphone

  You can register for multi-factor authentication without a smartphone in the following ways.

  • By phone number. You can add in multiple numbers such as your mobile, desk phone and home phone. When you need to authenticate, you can select which number you which to be phoned at that point in time.
