The academic year at Trinity College is split into three terms:

• Michaelmas term runs from early September to late December
• Hilary term runs from mid-January to early April
• Trinity term runs from mid-April to early June.

Orientation is provided by the International Office at Trinity. Additionally, the Department of History at Trinity provides its own orientation and a handbook.

Trinity College was founded in 1592 and is rated highly for the quality of its teaching and research.

As a legal deposit library, Trinity College has excellent library facilities and is the largest research library in Ireland, receiving over 100,000 new items each year. The library holds around five million books and significant collections of manuscripts (including the Book of Kells), maps and music. The book depository holds a further three million books.

Within the School of Histories and Humanities, the Department of History has strong links with Classics, History of Art and Gender Studies. The Department enjoys an international research profile in several areas across a diverse range of periods, countries and themes – most notably, in the history of Ireland from the Middle Ages to the present day and global history.

Postgraduates are encouraged to participate in dedicated graduate conferences and workshops and are welcomed at the research seminar series, which covers:

• contemporary Irish history
• mediaeval history
• early modern history
• modern European history and war studies.

Accommodation at Trinity College is limited. The College's Accommodation Advisory Service runs each autumn prior to the beginning of Michaelmas term to assist students in finding alternative accommodation. This service can provide lists of available private accommodation and advice on location and costs.

For private accommodation, the Accommodation Office advises that students should budget at least €150 per week for private accommodation and should arrive at least two to three weeks before teaching begins in order to find suitable housing.

Temporary housing on campus is available for a maximum of two weeks during September. Spaces are limited, so it is advisable to reserve a place early.

Trinity College provides a range of services to support students during their studies:

• The College Health Centre provides inexpensive primary healthcare. The service is open weekdays and is committed to making Trinity College a healthy place to live, study and work.
• The Trinity Disability Service provides advice, support and information for students with disabilities. They help to create an inclusive transformational environment and provide a platform for innovation and inclusion.
• The Student Counselling Service is a confidential service available free of charge to every Trinity College student. It also offers learning support and development aids.
