The Burn Trip

In addition to the teaching that takes place at the University, the Department also organises, if possible, a two-day trip each year for Honours students to The Burn, a country house in beautiful surroundings approximately an hour’s drive from St Andrews. These occasions give Honours students and staff the opportunity to meet and talk outside a formal classroom setting.

“The Burn trip is a highlight of honours level anthropology. The house we stay in and the surrounding areas are beautiful and remote. Getting to know some of your fellow students better on an informal basis is great, and the fact that there’s a shared interest in the subject makes for easily forged friendships with people you might not expect. It offers a chance to learn about professors’ careers on a level that goes beyond the academic subject matter, and more importantly a chance to ask questions.”
