Lucky Ewe - Access Project

Lucky Ewe, based at Bonnyton Farm near New Gilston, were awarded £3000 to support additional accessibility improvements on the farm.

Lucky Ewe were recently awarded funding from Foundation Scotland to increase their outdoor well-ventilated covered area and will be erecting a second stock tunnel to give more space for beneficiaries to work with sheep and lambs.

The funding from the Community Fund will improve the area surrounding and within the new stock tunnel. Lucky Ewe know that some of their beneficiaries find uneven or slippery surfaces difficult to negotiate, therefore tracking the space - using rubber outdoor matting between the stock tunnel, bothy and hayshed - will improve physical access for anyone with mobility and/or sensory impairment. It will also make the experience at Lucky Ewe more pleasant for all abilities.

Lucky Ewe aims to give people with additional support needs of any kind the chance to experience farming, animal husbandry and food production at a pre-entry level. The outdoors and working with animals have been proven to enhance mental wellbeing and to bring a sense of peace and purpose. Lucky Ewe also offers a path to a new job, volunteering opportunities and beneficial placements for those in need in the community.
