Emory University

About the institution

Established in 1836, Emory University is famous for its Liberal Arts college, professional schools and its healthcare system, which is the largest healthcare system in Georgia, USA. Located in the historic Druid Hills area of Atlanta and in its original campus at Oxford, Georgia, Emory is one of America’s leading research universities. Emory is home to 8,000 undergraduates and 7,000 postgraduates.

Our relationship

The collaboration between Emory University and St Andrews has been greatly supported by scholarships established in the memory of champion golfer Robert T. Jones Jr., also known as Bobby Jones (1902-1971). An alumnus of Emory who competed as an amateur in professional golf tournaments, Bobby Jones enjoyed some of his greatest successes at St Andrews, including winning the Open Championship and being made a Freeman of the City of St Andrews.

Established in 1976, the Robert T. Jones Scholarship allows outstanding graduating students from both institutions the chance to spend a year of postgraduate study on the other side of the Atlantic after their graduation from either Emory or St Andrews.

Over the years, our joint strengths in neuroscience, behavioural biology and psychology have led to a ‘sister school’ relationship, with rich research collaborations and over 20 years of undergraduate exchanges in neuroscience and behavioural sciences with pre-approved options (BrainStEM).

St Andrews and Emory collaborate on a range of activities, including:
