Professor James Ainge

The Head of School (HoS) overseas the planning and delivery of the School strategy and policies, convenes and reports to the management committee, and is responsible for ensuring the health and wellbeing of all staff in the work place.

School Manager

Shona Deigman

The School Manager reports to the School management committee on matters of health and safety, strategy and planning, operational and resource management, and building management. The School Manager is a member of the Service Directors Group and attends the University School Managers meetings which meets monthly.

Director of Teaching

Dr Eoin O'Sullivan

The Director of Teaching (DoT) manages all taught modules and programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students. The DoT is convenor of the School teaching committee and reports to the School management committee on matters of teaching strategy, policy and issues.

Director of Research

Professor Karen Spencer

The Director of Research (DoR) facilitates and promotes research within the School. The DoR collates research activity and works with the University’s Research and Innovation Services to prepare the School’s submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). The DoR convenes the School’s research committee and reports to the School management committee on matters of research strategy, policy and activities. The DoR attends University Directors of Research meetings on a monthly basis.

Director of Postgraduate Studies

Dr Thomas Otto

The Director of Postgraduates (DoPG) manages the postgraduate research community within the School and reports to Head of School on matters regarding postgraduate strategy and University policy. The DoPG attends the University Postgraduate Research Committee and monthly DoPG lunches.

Director of Impact

Dr Gayle Doherty

The Director of Impact (DoI) facilitates and promotes research impact within the School. The DoI collates impact activities and works with the University’s Research and Innovation Services to prepare external impact assessment submissions for the Research Excellence Framework (REF). The DoI reports to the School management committee and research committee and attends the Directors of Impact meetings.

Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Dr Erin Robbins

The Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is expected to help foster a work and study environment that promotes equality of opportunity for staff and students across all protected characteristics. The Director of EDI chairs the School EDI Committee, which meets once per month during semester and attends the University EDI Committee meetings and other relevant meetings.

Jackie MacPherson

The School Workshop and IT Manager oversees the teaching, research and administrative IT support within the School and manages the School technicians in teaching and research support.
