Volunteer with Museums

Volunteering plays an important role in the Museums of the University of St Andrews and brings a number of benefits to the individuals who participate.

We offer a variety of volunteer projects every year. You do not need any experience to apply for a volunteer post.

Each of our volunteers works on a specific project with defined outcomes. Volunteers receive a one-to-one mentoring session with a member of the Museums team and access to workshops designed to develop your skills.

How to apply

Look through the volunteer roles below. Once you have found something that interests you, complete an I'm interested form (Word) and return to museumlearning@st-andrews.ac.uk. You may be invited to an informal interview to check that this is the right role for you.

The Collections audit volunteer will examine and assess the importance of material relating to Professor John Allan that is deposited with the museum.

Professor Allan carried out research into LEDs at the University of St Andrews. He is credited with producing the first LEDs in 1961.

This will require working at the annex store at North Haugh.

A background in physics, optics or electronic engineering would be useful but not essential.

Collections audit volunteer
