Outreach and access
St Andrews has a diverse and vibrant student community, and students come from a range of backgrounds having achieved a variety of qualifications. The School of Modern Languages is committed to promoting language learning and organises a wide variety of liaison and outreach activities for primary and secondary schools and the general public.
Supported pathways
There are a number of degree routes on offer that give applicants with alternative qualifications or who may have narrowly missed our standard entry requirements due to mitigating circumstances the opportunity to access a university education at St Andrews.
The Gateway to Arts programme is a tailored programme with additional support. It is aimed at Scottish students who may not have been able to obtain the grades usually required by the University to study their chosen subject.
The FE-HE Pathway to Arts is aimed at students studying alternative qualifications at further education colleges across Scotland.

The University’s access projects help ensure that St Andrews is open to those with the potential to succeed.

The University also hosts Summer Academic Experience Courses giving pupils from around the world the unique opportunity to experience courses taught in the Scottish academic tradition by current academic staff.
