Self-guided tour

The University of St Andrews is not a campus university; instead, our academic schools, residences and other buildings are spread throughout the town.

You can use the map below to help you get a feel for the town, take a self-guided tour, or discover more about a particular location.

How to use this map

First, expand the map legend by clicking on the icon in the top left corner.

Once you can see the legend, you will find locations divided into several layers, which you can view or hide as you like. These layers include University buildings, academic schools, town locations, halls of residence and parking. Click on a location to see pictures, a link to more information, or watch a short video.

We have also provided two suggested walking tour routes:

  • Walking tour route 1 - approximately 30 minutes, covers the town centre tour route you might take on a visiting day.
  • Walking tour route 2 - approximately 60 minutes, includes the North Haugh science buildings, Sports Centre, and St Andrews pier.

Walking tour route 1 includes two small steps, which can be avoided between points A and B by continuing up to North Street and entering St Salvator's Quad from the street. The Library can also be reached from North Street without any steps.
