The Kinnessburn Scholarship is awarded annually to up to two successful candidates who have completed an International Foundation programme at the International Education Institute and are moving on to an undergraduate degree programme within the University of St Andrews.

The Kinnessburn scholarship award is based on the following:

  • A panel will shortlist four candidates based on a two-minute video task.
  • Kinnessburn scholars will have an Ambassador role for IE whilst they are an undergraduate student at the University of St Andrews and in receipt of the Kinnessburn scholarship funding. This role will require up to ten hours per semester, and ambassadorial tasks may include:
    • Helping with conversion and orientation activities for foundation offer-holders and entrants. This may involve sending emails in response to offer-holder queries, participating in webinars to share student experience, attending or supporting in-person orientation events and recording videos about being a student in St Andrews.
    • An invitation to online recruitment events.
    • An in-person event in Kinnessburn early each semester, in January and September, to connect newly-started students with alumni.
    • Focus group work on marketing and conversion ideas.
  • Exit interviews with IE staff to reflect on the impact of their foundation studies on their undergraduate experiences. These interviews will take place when students graduate from their degree.

The Task

As well as submitting a scholarship application through MySaint, applicants must also create atwo-minute video in support of their application. This video will be used to shortlist candidates for interview by the panel. Please submit your video by email to ifp@st-andrews.ac.uk.   Guidance on the video's content is provided below.

Applicants will be selected for interview on the basis of a 2-minute video which they are required to submit by email, along with a FUND application through MySaint.

Your video is your opportunity to demonstrate:

  • A well-structured presentation, describing how you have developed during your foundation studies and sharing which specific elements of your foundation programme you believe will benefit you the most in your future degree studies at St Andrews. You must choose no more than three different elements for your video but these can represent academic, extra-curricular, social and cultural aspects of the programme.
  • Why you would be an effective ambassador for IE.

Your video can include music, photographs, graphics and subtitles but it must also include at least one minute of you on camera and talking directly to camera. Please email your two-minute (maximum length) video to ifp@st-andrews.ac.uk (or send us the Google drive link to it) as part of your scholarship application. You must also complete an application in FUND through your MySaint portal.
