RAE 2008

The 2008 UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) placed the University of St Andrews 14th in the UK and 2nd in Scotland for the quality of its research across Science and the Arts. The results of the RAE 2008 demonstrated a significant expansion of world-class research from the University since the previous Research Assessment Exercise in 2001.

The RAE 2008 found that 94% of St Andrews’ research submitted for assessment was internationally recognised, and 60% was world-leading or internationally excellent.

Between the RAE in 2001 and 2008, the University increased its number of research active staff by 40%. Also, more than 92% of St Andrews academic staff were submitted for consideration in the RAE 2008, making it one of the most research-intensive universities anywhere in the UK.
