Oversight of research integrity activity

Oversight of research integrity activity at the University of St Andrews is conducted at an institutional and operational level. You can find out more about who oversees research integrity activity, and how often these groups meet, on this page.

The senior staff member overseeing research integrity is Professor Tom Brown, Vice-Principal (Research, Collections & Innovation). Contact Professor Brown by emailing vpresearch@st-andrews.ac.uk.

At an institutional level, oversight of research integrity activity is led by the Vice-Principal (Research, Collections & Innovation), who chairs the University’s Ethics and Research Integrity Assurance Group (EARIAG). This group meets twice annually and comprises:
- the Vice-Principal (Governance) and convenor of the University Teaching and Research Ethics Committee (UTREC)
- a General Council Assessor to Court
- a non-executive member of Court.
The EARIAG reports to the Audit and Risk Committee of University Court.
At an operational level, oversight of research integrity activity is led by the head of research policy, integrity and governance, who convenes the Research Integrity Committee (RIC), which meets six times annually.

The RIC comprises professional services staff from:
- the Centre for Educational Enhancement and Development (CEED)
- Organisational and Staff Development Services (OSDS)
- University Teaching and Research Ethics Committee (UTREC)
- Animal Welfare and Ethics Committee (AWEC)
- academic representatives from:
  - medical science
  - life science
  - physical science
  - social science
  - arts and humanities.
The RIC reports to the Ethics and Research Integrity Assurance Group (EARIAG). Members of the RIC attend other University committees and working groups, including the:
- Research, Impact and Innovation Committee
- Research Excellence Board
- Research Staff Forum
- Open Research Working Group
- HR Excellence in Research Award working group.
