Research

The School of Mathematics and Statistics focuses on a wide range of research areas across the mathematical sciences. Activities are structured around its research groups, all of which are internationally renowned, interdisciplinary and led by world-leaders in their fields.

The School's research groups coordinate and deliver an engaging range of research seminars, welcoming researchers from around the globe.  Students and staff from across the School and wider University are encouraged to actively participate in the seminar series, both as attendees and presenters.

Impact is broad, with researchers directly influencing conservation activities, medical innovations and how we view the history of mathematics.

The School is a founding partner in four interdisciplinary research centres with other schools across the University.

The School actively participates in many external collaborative projects, including as:

School researchers publish in leading international journals and attract considerable amounts of research funding from a diverse range of funders including RCUK (EPSRC, STFC, NERC, MRC), ERC, Leverhulme, Carnegie and Cancer Research UK.
