  Attend this session with Jim Campbell, Assistant Director of the Careers Centre, to find out more about the graduate job market in the UK. It will cover common recruitment timelines, effective job search strategies, and provide tips on how to perform well in typical recruitment process. It will also draw on the experiences of other international graduates who have previously sought employment in the UK via the Graduate route visa or the Skilled Worker visa.

• Write effective CVs and applications

  Wednesday 20 September 2023 4pm to 6pm Gateway LR3/4

  This session with Jim Campbell, Assistant Director of the Careers Centre, will help you apply for jobs and give you the confidence to create CVs and cover letters with clarity and purpose. It will also look at job applications more generally, advising you on how to answer specific application questions and demonstrate your abilities to an employer.

• Capco Case Study Competition information event

  Financial services consultancy Capco is running an immersive case study competition for the Universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and St Andrews. To provide more information they will run an online Capco Case Study Competition information event.

  This online information session with Thomas Wyllie from Capco will provide an overview of the Case Study Competition and answer questions about the opportunity.  You can sign up for the information event via the Career Centre link.

  Capco, the global technology and management consultancy dedicated to financial services, are offering an incredible opportunity for students. A case study competition which gives students hands on experience and real-life insight into consultancy work.

  Working in teams of 3 to 5, undergraduate students from any school, are presented with a mock client brief and put forward a solution that will address the issues and support the client’s business.

  There will be 3 rounds to the competition:

  • Round 1 – a 2 minute video ‘elevator pitch’ – Maximum of 20 teams can enter per university
  • Round 2 – a slide deck with more analysis – Top 5 teams per university
  • Round 3 – in-person presentation at Capco’s Edinburgh office – Top 2 teams per university.

  You will be competing against University of Edinburgh and University of Glasgow as well as fellow University of St Andrews students, with the best two teams from each university progressing to an in-person final in Capco’s Edinburgh offices.

  On the day of the final there will be opportunities to engage with several different members of the Capco team and learn more about the work they do and how to pursue a career in consultancy.

  The winning team will get dedicated support from the Capco team to build their employability, including CV sessions and mock interviews.

• Alumni talk: Water Industry Commission for Scotland

  Hear from University of St Andrews alumnus Alan Sutherland, CEO, Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WICS).

  Mr Sutherland has been Chief Executive of WICS since its establishment in 2005. Prior to this, he was Water Industry Commissioner, responsible for the merger of the three water authorities in Scotland.

• Alumni talk: Houlihan Lokey

  This session is an opportunity to hear from alumnus and global investment bank Houlihan Lokey Vice-President Maximillian Mangold and his colleague Erkka Salo, Financial Analyst. They will speak about the fundamentals of debt-driven investment banking, in a talk titled, 'Do what you love, love what you do'.
