Information for new students
There is a range of IT support available for students at the University. After you arrive at St Andrews, you should connect to the University's wifi network, Eduroam. There are also many free services you will gain access to as a student, including Microsoft Office 365.
The IT service desk is happy to help if you require support, advice or guidance with any IT matter at any time.
Get online
Connect to Eduroam wifi
Eduroam is a secure wireless network available for staff and students to use in most University buildings.
Laptops
- Connect to uos-connect wifi.
- Open a web browser and go to http://connect.st-andrews.ac.uk.
- Click 'Go to eduroam setup'.
- Log in with your University username and password.
- Click 'Download eduroam profile'.
- Connect to Eduroam wifi with your University username and password.
Mobile devices
- For Androids, download the 'geteduroam' app from the Google Play store.
- For other mobile devices, visit cat.eduroam.org in a browser
Follow the instructions to set up eduroam wifi then sign in using University your email address and password to connect.
Ethernet cables
If your device can't connect to wifi, you can ask your Residential Services Manager for an ethernet cable.
Microsoft 365
You get access to Microsoft 365 for free as a University student, including Office applications and productivity tools.
Sign into office.com to read your email and use other apps like OneDrive for Business.
Download Word, Excel and PowerPoint for free on up to five personal devices.
Use Teams to collaborate with classmates and attend tutorials.
Printing
You can print, scan and copy documents using printers installed across the University with the Uniprint system. See all printer locations.
Uniprint is a "pull" print system, which means you can retrieve your print job from any public printer by logging in using your St Andrews ID. University printers operate on a pre-pay system, so you will need to top up your printer account before you can print.
