2 February 2023

Three leading historians from the School of History have been awarded honours in the Kings New Year's Honours. Professor of History, Colin Kidd, is to receive an OBE for services to history, culture, and politics. Also from the School of History, Professor Emeritus Rab Houston and Honorary Senior Lecturer Lorna Walker are each made MBE for their services to higher education.

Commenting on his award, Professor Kidd said: "I was both surprised and pleased to hear about this Honour. I take it to be a mark of recognition for the work we are doing here in the School of History at St Andrews, and the wider university. None of this would be possible without the cooperation of wonderful colleagues."

University Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Sally Mapstone commented "These significant honours are richly deserved and reflect lives dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in teaching and research."
