Updated on: 30 October 2023

Commuter students can use showers, lockers, microwaves, and other facilities available in the University.

You may be asked to show your commuter card to use the facilities dedicated to commuter students. You can get a commuter card from the Advice and Support Centre (ASC)

Read the commuter study spaces guide [add link] and the commuter map to know where to find the facilities

Undergraduate and postgraduate commuter students can use the gendered showers in the Commuter common room at 79 North Street.

Medical Sciences building

Commuter students can use the showers beside the café counter.

Requesting special access

If showers in the Commuter common room are not suitable, or you are an undergraduate student without access to these spaces, you can:

  • email theasc@st-andrews.ac.uk to request access to the showers in the Old Burgh School
  • speak to reception staff at Saints Sport (in the sports centre) to get free access to their showers.

Microwaves

Commuter students can use the microwaves in the following study spaces:

  • Commuter common room at 79 North Street
  • Commuter lounge on the North Haugh
  • Postgraduate lounge (for postgraduate students only)
  • Old Burgh School (for postgraduate students only)
  • Medicine Café
  • Main Library.

Microwaves are not monitored, so there may be allergens present.

Lockers

Commuter students have exclusive access to the lockers in the following study spaces:

  • Commuter common room
  • Commuter lounge
  • Postgraduate lounge.

Commuter students can also book a locker in the Main Library or if you are a postgraduate student, use a locker in the Old Burgh School.

University lockers should be large enough to hold a few books, a backpack with a laptop, and documents.

Lockers have digital code locks so you won't need a key. Each locker has instructions on how to set up the lock.
