Student support

In 2022-2023, 2,200 students (almost 25% of the student body) were in contact with the University of St Andrews Money Advice team. The team supports students to reach their full potential without worrying about how to meet the costs of living and studying.

This figure represents the continued unprecedented disruption and uncertainty faced by students today. The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are still being felt. The cost-of-living crisis wages on, and world events such as the war in Ukraine have affected some students’ ability to fund their education.

Thanks to our generous donors, almost 1,200 students facing hardship were able to receive an award, enabling them to cover rent and bills and meet unexpected costs. Numbers were almost evenly split between undergraduate and postgraduate students.

A total of £1.1 million – raised through donations supplementing University and government funding – was disbursed to students in financial difficulty, enabling them to continue their studies and make the most of their St Andrews experience. We know from those students what a positive difference that funding has made.

Thank you, as always, for your support.
