The School of Chemistry abhors all types of discrimination, whatever its form

9 June 2020

The School of Chemistry abhors all types of discrimination, whatever its form. Our values as individual scientists and as a collective institution enshrine the benefits of equality, diversity, inclusivity and connectedness, and we strive to make sure that our School is for everyone, whatever their race, gender or orientation. The recent publication of an essay on the Angewandte Chemie website that describes efforts at increasing diversity as "a negative influence on chemistry" is an affront to our values and we deplore its publication. That this manuscript was written, submitted, refereed and accepted for publication has harmed the integrity of scientific publishing and our discipline.

Diverse St Andrews is a major pillar of the University of St Andrews strategy, and Diversity by Design is one of the major strategic challenges we have identified for the School of Chemistry. Further information can be found by following these links
